Bird Gift Tags

I love gift tags...they're the perfect topping to the most perfectly wrapped gift. These cute gift tags feature the birds of two of my paintings: Bird Watching and Romance is in the Air. These tags are nice and large too - leaving tons of room for lovely messages on the back of them.

It's my early week this week at clinical - 7:30 start = leave the apartment at 6-something-am. But it's my last shift of the semester - Eeee....two weeks of painting and creating bliss!

I'm off tonight to visit my parents up North for a day or so. It's always such a nice drive up, there's just so much nature - very scenic. There's a part of the drive where it's just hills of trees and the highway - picture perfect! - minus the highway.

Pussy Willows

I love these soft pretties. It's a shame that they only last a few weeks. I did some brief research on them, and they are named for their cat-like resemblance in softness. Those soft projections are also sometimes called catkins.

I created this painting alongside Seed Pods - they would be perfect together!

Misty Morning

Another painting that I had added this week. I was inspired from just outside my window - all I see on clear days are the tree branches against a blue sky background. Soon they will fill out with luscious leaves.

Misty Morning - Watercolor on 9x12" 140lb Watercolor paper

This one took quite the steady hand and patience :)

Miso Soup

Miso soup always seem to be a little luxury of mine when I got to go to a Japanese restaurant. Recently I have found it very readily available, and just as delicious, at the grocery store! The best part is: it is single portions - so I don't have to make a lot, and it's 'instant.'

Don't let the word instant scare you - this tastes just as it does in the restaurant. It's brought in from Japan (or so the package says), so it's got to be a little authentic. Here's a brief overview of creating it:
Dried tofu, green onions and wakame (seaweed).

This is the soybean paste - it looks like baby droppings to me, it was hard to look at the first time, and think - this is going in my mouth?! But it looked alright when all was said and done.

Pour in some water....and...wait for it....

Presto! Miso Soup! Yum!

Seed Pods

I found these little seed pods on the top of branches of a bush that I came across when I was at my parents for Easter. I knew I had to paint them, so I took a sprig or two home, and after I was done exams, painting it was just what I did! I finished it this weekend, and listed it in my Etsy store this morning.
Seed Pods - Original 9 x 12" watercolor

I had been wanting to do a few paintings with more neutral / muted colours - for those who may not be able to match my colourful pieces to a room. The deep red branches add just a hint of colour :) - I can't completely shy away from it now.

Stay tuned this week for more pieces!

Oldies

I posted a bunch of 'oldies but goodies' into my shop this weekend, offering them as prints. I'm not sure why I hadn't turned them into prints before. One of them was already being offered as a print in another store, and I thought I'd move it into my jellybeans store : Cupcake Bubble Bath - watercolor print

Now, I have lots of new work to post this week as well :) I've created some new watercolor paintings using more neutral shades - I love bright colours, but sometimes it's hard to match up the colours to a room; making these pieces perfect for any area of your home! As a hint: they are inspired by early spring, and I got the ideas when I was home at my parents.

I'm also adding two smaller, more playful acrylic paintings, with a third in the process.

And, as an update on the ocean painting that taking me forever...it's almost done! A few more fishes here and there, and a touch up here and there...and DONE. :D

Catching Up

Now that my big exam is over - I have my life back, for a little while at least. I've spent the last two days catching up, and I'm almost 100% there! It feels nice to have the time to do all this stuff again.

I have a whole slew of ideas to put to paper! And some other larger projects that I'm working on (I'm not sure how successful they'll be though, just keep your fingers crossed for me...on another though, you all better cross your toes too!)

On one last note, here's a cute print that I found on Etsy about catching up, by littlestflower...

A recent purchase...

I was stumbling upon Etsy - as we all do when we have no time to spare, but seem to procrastinate nonetheless - and I came upon this new Etsy shop: littlebranchspa. I was immediately drawn from the Etsy search to their wonderful presentation of their products.

Now, you must understand: I am a self-declared candle junkie. If the power ever went out, I would have the most well-lit, best smelling apartment, aside from those lucky bums with generators to help them out - but my apartment would still smell nicer! So, back to this lovely shop: I had to give their candles a try :) I ordered a set of votives and of tealights, in scents Lime Cooler and Black Currant Nectarine, respectively. On top of that! Since I was one of their first 25 buyers, I got a free candle tin as well - which I chose to be scented Love Spell :) - There is still time to get in on the free candle to your order :) .

The prices are wonderful, and for those fellow Canadians who are scared to order candles because of their heavy weight, and thus large shipping cost - they were very reasonable here; especially when you consider getting the free candle - it's almost free!

Now for my favourite part of all this: I was their first :o)...I love finding an amazing shop and being the first - it's like finding treasure before everyone else has!
So if you're a fellow candle lover, you should mosey on down to littlebranchspa and them a look :)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! I hope everyone is enjoying gorgeous weather where they are (I know that it can't be like this everywhere, but I hope no one has horrible weather). I thought will all the bunnies, that I'd throw in a chickie this time :)

It's sunny now (on the eve of Easter)...but they're calling for rain tomorrow. That's okay though. It will 'refresh' everything :) (and I know my dad really needs some dribbles from the sky - he's a farmer, and just started planting and the ground is a little but on the dry and dusty side).

I'm at my parents for the weekend - studying all weekend - yes, festive I know. But I am happy to be out in the beautiful country, so it makes the books a little less painful. My internet is sporadic here, but I have my blackberry to keep in touch with friends / family - unfortunately no Etsy-ing though *frown*; but I guess it's good so that I don't procrastinate too much. But being home is nice nonetheless, even if I'm cooped up in the room like a hermit with my nose in science textbooks.

And! I can safely say that there will be some new paintings in the next few weeks coming up. I have a few commissions to finish first, but I have a lovely 2-week break from school and clinical, and I've gotten so many ideas walking around in the country (during study breaks, of course), and looking at all the early spring flora and fauna. I have random doodles on the backs of my study notes so I don't forget, I knew I should have brought my sketch book! Just goes to show, you never know when inspiration will strike!

I hope you all liked my bunny finds from my previous post :o)

Bunnie Bling

It's that time of year again! The time to embrace to a larger extent those cute little fuzzy creatures known as bunnies, or rabbits, or a combination of those two:
